#wearethem

Whether your ancestors came from the east, west, north, or south

Whether your skin has a little melanin, a lot, or somewhere in between

Whether you have a little money in your pocket or a lot of money in the bank

Whether you like donkeys over elephants, elephants over donkeys, both or none at all

Whether your great-great-grandmother waited at Ellis Island, or your father came to San Francisco by train

We are them.jpg

Because for many of us whose ancestors left home for a better life, our bones know the journey this wave of Central Americans takes

Whether one or many generations in the US, we have immigrant/refugee/asylum-seeking blood running through our veins

As they are now, we have been “the other;” the “they,” “them,” “these people:”

The Irish Need Not Apply (1850s), the Chinese Exclusion Act of 1882, and the “Who Killa da Chief” (anti-Italian phrase in 1890s)

So let’s support our brothers and sisters from the south, and share our stories, showing who they really are: us

And help turn a fearful narrative into a brighter truth

Learn how We Are Them started & its mission. Also, shout outs to everyone involved in making this happen and continue to happen.

Show the love and support for this cause and share it with your friends and followers so more people can be a part of We Are Them.

We’ll be reading, posting, and featuring immigration/refugee/asylum-seeking stories. Come along with us on this journey!
